“Our Lips Are Sealed,” released in June 1981, represents the first single from The Go-Go’s debut album titled Beauty and the Beat. The Go-Go’s, an all-girl band, formed in the late 1970s in Los Angeles. They rose to fame in the early 1980s and lead the new-wave movement. The Go-Go’s lineup consisted of Belinda Carlisle (lead vocals), Charlotte Caffey (lead guitar), Gina Schock (drums), Kathy Valentine (bass guitar, background vocals), and Jane Wiedlin (rhythm guitar and vocals). The Go-Go’s second album, Vacation, rose to number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. Remarkably, The Go-Go’s remain the only all-female band to top the Billboard album chart who both wrote their own music and played their own instruments.
