Throwback Thursday: Daria

Daria is an animated series that aired between 1997 and 2001 and ran for five seasons and two made-for-TV movies on MTV. The show is a spinoff of the earlier nineties MTV cartoon Beavis and Butthead. Daria was originally a minor character of the prior show, but co-creators Susie Lewis and Glenn Eichler fleshed her out (Variety). The show follows Daria Morgendorfer, a teenage girl navigating through life in suburban Lawndale with a cynical outlook and deadpan humor. While it was airing, Daria was nominated for Best Animated Series by the Online Film & Television Association three times. The show became a cult hit that is still revered and referenced today. There have also been plans to create another spinoff of Daria entitled Jodie based on the eponymous side character (Vulture). There has not been a release date announced, but Comedy Central is slated to pick up the show.
