going round
gliding over gleaming iceÂ
like a stylus tracing the surface
of a clean and clear long player
balanced by upper body counterweight
each leg is a tone arm
each blade a needle
misperception
bent over in laughter, we watch billy flail his arms Â
and kick his legs out after swinging on a vine
in the woods beyond the driveway
we are far enough away to see only
the surprising abandon of his movements
having never seen such funny dancing
we are too young to understand
the experience of being stung
by that many bees all at once
Â
and we cannot stop laughing
as billy runs up the hill and past us
screaming in terror and into the house
